NYC Nightlife Rankings

Fifteen ranked lists, built under the same rules as the rest of the site: venue facts come from our verified data, verdicts include downsides, and nobody can pay for a spot (see the editorial policy). Rankings are opinionated by design — the facts underneath them aren't.

How to read a ranking

A ranking is a starting point, not a verdict on your night. The #1 club on a strict-door Saturday can be the wrong answer for a group of eight in sneakers — that's what the per-venue fact pages are for, with covers, dress codes, and age policies dated and sourced. Cross-reference any pick against its venue page before you commit, use the venue compare tool for head-to-heads, and if the budget is the deciding factor, start from the budget planner instead and work backwards. Rankings refresh as venues change; each list shows its own update date.

When lists disagree with your gut

They will, and that's fine. Rankings optimize for the average great night; your night has specifics — a birthday, a budget, a 21st-birthday ID situation, a friend who hates EDM. Use the occasion lists to narrow, the fact pages to disqualify (wrong dress code, wrong age policy, sold-out door), and your own taste to pick the winner. The list got you to three candidates fast; that was its whole job. Start with the borough list if you're new to the city, and the weekend hub if you're going out in the next 48 hours.
