Set your night above and hit Calculate — you get a per-person range with the full math shown, not one suspiciously exact number.
How to use this calculator
Choose the kind of room you're aiming for, the night you're going, how many of you there are, and whether anyone is seriously talking about a table. The calculator returns a per-person range and a group total, with every line of the math visible: entry, three drinks, tip, and the subway there and back. If your crew drinks more than three rounds — and on a Saturday, someone will — nudge the total up by the drink price shown for that tier.
It's deliberately a range. The same club that charges $25 for a Tuesday local charges $60 for a Saturday headliner, and doors quote whatever the line lets them. Treat the low end as "early, weeknight, presale" and the high end as "peak Saturday, big DJ, paid at the door."
The honest math behind the numbers
- Covers by tier: pulled from our venue pages — Nebula GA at $20–$60, Marquee reported at $30–$70, House of Yes presales at $0–$40, Bossa Nova Civic Club at $0–$15, 230 Fifth at $15 on weekend nights.
- Night multiplier: Saturday is full price, Friday runs about 90% of it, Thursday about 70%, and Sunday–Wednesday roughly half — when the room is open at all.
- Drinks: three per person, at $6–$9 in a dive, $15–$25 in clubs, $16–$26 at cocktail bars and rooftops (Harriet's runs $26–$31; we cap the model below that outlier).
- Tip: 20% on drinks, never on the cover.
- Subway: two rides at $3.00 = $6. A 3am rideshare from Bushwick to Manhattan replaces that with $30–$50 — budget accordingly.
- Bottle service: minimum × 1.08875 sales tax × 1.20 service, split by your group. A $1,500 minimum lands near $1,950 all-in — about $245 each for 8. Minimums at Nebula and Marquee aren't published; third-party quotes of $1,000–$2,500 are marked unverified for a reason.

How to pay less
Presale beats the door almost everywhere — ticketed rooms like Nebula and House of Yes tier their pricing, so buying the week before can halve your entry. Free guestlists are real at big clubs but conditional: arrive before the cutoff (often midnight) and expect ratio checks; our VIP club access guide covers how they actually work. And the cheapest great night in NYC skips cover entirely — see the best nightlife under $50 for full plans.
FAQ
How much is cover at NYC clubs in 2026?
Regular clubs run about $20–$60 (Nebula GA $20–$60 by event; House of Yes presales $0–$40). Mega-club covers at Marquee are reported at $30–$70, and Pacha New York GA runs $50–$130 on headliner nights. Dives charge $0–$15, and most cocktail bars have no cover at all.
Do you tip on a cover charge?
No — covers and tickets aren't tipped. Tip on drinks: about 20% on cocktails, $1–$2 per beer at a dive. Bottle-service checks usually add roughly 20% service automatically, so read the bill before double-tipping.
How do I avoid paying cover?
Buy presale tickets, use free guestlists before their cutoff, go on weeknights, or pick no-cover venues — cocktail bars, most regular bars, and many rooftops before the evening switch to ticketed entry.
Is bottle service cheaper than cover for a big group?
Rarely. A reported $1,500 minimum plus tax and service is about $1,950 — roughly $245 each for 8 people. Eight people paying $40 cover plus drinks spend about half that. A table buys guaranteed entry and space, not savings.
