5-Day NYC Nightlife Itinerary

Five nights is long enough to stop cramming and start pacing — so this itinerary is built as five themed nights (Classic, Dive, Club, Borough, Wildcard) that you reorder around your dates, plus low-effort daytime anchors that leave fuel for the evenings. It's a different animal from our 3-day itinerary, which is a neighborhood-a-night sprint.

The one hard rule: put the Club night on a Friday or Saturday, and never schedule it back-to-back with the Classic night. Everything else can shuffle.

Night 1 Theme: Classic

Your postcard night. Sunset drink at a rooftop — Mr. Purple on the Lower East Side or anything from the best rooftops list — then dinner, then one serious cocktail room like Employees Only. Cap it with a landmark: The Dead Rabbit in the Financial District is a repeat "world's best bar" winner where the downstairs taproom takes walk-ins. Cocktails at this tier run $18–$25; be done by 1am on purpose.

Daytime pairing

Arrival logistics or one big museum, nothing more. Jet lag plus a rooftop bill is a bad combination.

Night 2 Theme: Dive

The cheapest and often most memorable night. Work the East Village along Avenue A and 7th Street, or the Ludlow–Orchard grid on the Lower East Side: $7–$9 beers, jukeboxes, photo booths, zero dress code. Three or four stops, one drink each — routes and group tactics are in the bar crawl guide. End with late food from the late-night food map.

Daytime pairing

Downtown on foot — SoHo, Chinatown, the East Village itself. You'll pass tonight's bars in daylight and can scout the ones with happy hours (many run until 7 or 8pm).

Night 3 Theme: Club (the big one)

Pick your scale. In Manhattan, Nebula in Midtown is the city's flagship big-room club and Marquee in Chelsea is the long-running bottle-service institution — expect covers/tickets roughly $20–$60 and drinks $20+, with dress codes enforced. For warehouse scale, Knockdown Center in Maspeth, Queens runs major dance lineups in a former factory. And in summer, Pacha New York is the marquee open-air option: it opened in June 2026 on the rebuilt former Brooklyn Mirage site in East Williamsburg and runs a seasonal calendar through October. Brooklyn Mirage itself is closed — don't plan around that name.

Buy tickets the day your dates lock; headline nights sell out and door prices run higher than advance. If you're considering a table, read the VIP club access guide first — minimums start well into the hundreds. Check Tonight and This Weekend for lineups before choosing your room. Plan your exit before you go in: safe late-night transport covers the 3am math.

Daytime pairing

Almost nothing. Sleep in, eat one great meal, walk the High Line. This night runs midnight to 4am.

Night 4 Theme: Borough (Queens)

Recovery disguised as exploration. Start in Astoria at Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden — open since 1910, it's NYC's oldest beer garden, with Czech lagers and sausages under the trees (closed Mondays; weekend hours run from midday). Then a short hop to Long Island City for a waterfront drink with the full Midtown skyline across the river. Beers run $8–$10, and the whole night can land under $60. Last verified: 2026-08-26.

Prefer Brooklyn? Swap in Good Room in Greenpoint or a Sunday session at Nowadays in Ridgewood — both are dance rooms that stay friendly to people who also want to talk.

Daytime pairing

The free Staten Island Ferry for harbor and Statue of Liberty views, then the 7 train out to Queens — dinner in Astoria or Jackson Heights beats most Manhattan tourist-zone meals at half the price.

Night 5 Theme: Wildcard (Jazz or Comedy)

End seated. Greenwich Village is the natural zone: the Comedy Cellar remains the city's benchmark stand-up room — reserve online well ahead, and expect a cover plus a two-item minimum per person, realistically about $50 all-in. The Village's historic jazz clubs run nightly sets at comparable prices; book whichever act fits your taste, then take one quiet nightcap nearby. If your flight is late the next day and you have gas left, Public Records in Gowanus splits the difference — audiophile sound, dance floor optional.

Daytime pairing

Souvenirs, a last long lunch, and packing. You planned a five-night arc precisely so tonight wouldn't hurt.

FAQ

How is this different from a 3-day NYC nightlife itinerary?

A 3-day trip is a sprint: one classic night, one bar night, one club night. Five days lets you add a Queens beer-garden night, a genuine mega-club night, and a low-key jazz or comedy night — and still sleep. The structure here is themed nights rather than a day-by-day march, so you can reorder them around weather and event calendars.

Which night should be the big club night?

Friday or Saturday — that's when the major rooms book their strongest lineups. Slot it as night three or four so you have a recovery night after. Check lineups and buy tickets as soon as your dates are set; big-name shows sell out days or weeks ahead.

Is Pacha New York the same thing as Brooklyn Mirage?

Same complex, new operator. Brooklyn Mirage went dark in 2025 during Avant Gardner's bankruptcy, and Pacha New York opened on the rebuilt site in June 2026 as a seasonal open-air venue running through October. Don't plan around the Mirage name — it no longer operates.

Can I do five nights out on a budget?

Yes, if you alternate. The dive night and the Queens night can come in under $60 per person each. Put your money into the club night and the classic night, use the $35 OMNY weekly fare cap for transit, and eat at least two dinners in the East Village, Astoria, or Jackson Heights rather than near your hotel.

Do I need advance tickets for the clubs on this itinerary?

For the mega-club night, yes — headline nights at the big rooms regularly sell out, and door prices are higher than advance prices. For smaller rooms like Good Room or Nowadays, advance tickets are cheaper but same-night entry is usually possible before midnight except on peak nights.
